There might have been a dropped pass, he said, or words to that effect. Team New Zealand bowman Jeremy Lomas was not known for his good hands. Lomas has been with Dalton since round-the-world yacht race days and is a veteran of the 2000, 2003 and 2007 America’s Cups. Faced with a slightly damaged trophy of world renown, Emirates Team New Zealand did the only decent thing. They fixed it. The hi-tech ETNZ engineering workshop swung into action. The cup was restored to its full glory although there may have been, for those in the know, a little inscription hidden inside.

LOUIS VUITTON

The case stemmed from a scene in which the character Alan Garner, played by Zach Galifianakis, is shown in an airport with a bag that looks a Louis Vuitton bag, but which the French company said is made by Diophy, which makes products with a design similar to Louis Vuitton’s “toile” monogram. Louis Vuitton, part of LVMG Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, claimed it was harmed by the misrepresentation and the resulting confusion to customers. It also said it was harmed in particular by a statement by Garner to a friend, “Careful … that is a Louis Vuitton,” that became “an oft-repeated and hallmark quote from the movie.” The “Louis” is mispronounced as “Lewis.” Louis Vuitton sought financial damages and a halt to further trademark infringement. But U.S. District Judge Andrew Carter in Manhattan found that Warner Brothers, part of Time Warner Inc, should not be held liable. He said it was unlikely that many filmgoers would have noticed that the bag, which was on screen for less than 30 seconds, was a knock-off, or that they would have thought Louis Vuitton approved of Warner Brothers’ use of the Diophy bag. “The likelihood of confusion is at best minimal,” Carter wrote. A lawyer for Louis Vuitton declined to comment on the ruling.

Some of the “hot” styles I’m featuring are vintage cloche hats, party dresses, gorgeous sweaters, and stunning Louboutins. I also have a coveted Fendi, Chanel and Louis Vuitton collection that women from Manhattan travel to see me. I also carry vintage baubles, but these are high-end and stunning. I also carry 1960’s sunglasses from Pucci. Every item tells a story. Advice for others who are interested in opening their own fashion boutique or business? Have a vision, have a goal. Work hard and make a plan.

Louis Vuitton Raised Most Non-Leather Handbag Prices, HSBC Says

The euros strength against some currencies may lead LVMH to charge more, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bernard Arnault said Jan. 31. Vuittons price increase in Japan, the biggest ever by the brand in the country, was taken to offset the impact of the yens slide on sales, the company said Feb. 20. In addition to protecting margins, the price increases must be seen, in our view, as a means to accelerate LVs repositioning towards more leather, Belge wrote. The decision will probably weigh on the number of items sold, though its the right thing for brand equity longer term. Vuittons 2013 sales may rise 6 percent, excluding currency moves, while volume may decline 2 percent to 3 percent, Belge wrote.

Yachting: How rugby game put dent in Cup

If you want to buy a designer handbag but are held back by pangs of price tag guilt, just look to Hong Kong, advises the U.K.s Telegraph. For Frances Le Figaro, the fashionistas of Hong Kong have found their pawnshop for luxury bags. The deal is simple: Cash-strapped women who possess luxury bags and occasionally men, who constitute one in five of the customers can recover 80% of the value of the item as a loan as long as the bag is a genuineGucci, Chanel, Hermes, Prada or Louis Vuitton. Special editions and vintage classics offer still better loan leverage. A Birkin bag, the Rolls Royce of the genre and one of Hermess most iconic handbags, recently snared one Hong Kong customer a $20,600 loan. Normally, a new Birkin costs about $6.300. But a limited edition or exotic-skin model can reach as high as $160,000.
